I used to believe manifestation could never change my life. What changed me more was realizing that hope and belief alone was the only thing that was keeping me sane.
I had a dream, and I wanted it to happen.
Let’s just call my friend L.
Opening up about my past, two years ago I was at rock bottom. Call it growing pains, or what not, or immaturity.
Being the daring child I am, I had a document full of lists, passions, and the ideal man I wanted to be at 16. Call it childish, call it funny, but I was the ambitious kid that couldn’t put anything to action.
Let’s just say I had a dying passion to pursue a band with a great group of people. And I had a chance two years ago.
Let’s just say I fumbled that.
The annual singing contest at our school was the biggest function of the year, and who won would get all the fame, all the bragging rights, and most importantly, all the eyes.
He asked me if I was interested, and the little kid in me declined.
And at the peak of my emotional issues and highest self consciousness, I chickened out again, like I was when I was young.
All the lists, all of the dreaming was all kept in the dream and vanquished away from actual existence.
And that all changed with a small night off.
I said Yes to myself for the first time ever in my life.
Everything will go your way if you are obsessed with it.
You are who you surround yourself with.
I finally said Yes to L.
And what happened after was simply phenomenal.
I’ve never had a group of people that acted as the pivotal aid to my medicine. I’ve never met a group of people so passionate about a thing, they could sacrifice their time, their positions in life, and their hearts just to play a few dumb songs together on stage.
Going through a directionless month, an emotional rollercoaster, it was great to gain some clarity and much needed happiness. And I just realised, I really love drumming.
Five days straight, 1ams, and five more, and five more, and five more, and five more.
Psychology says that the best group of friends come naturally, comes when you least notice and care, and usually needs to least amount of effort to keep. And I believe what we’re creating here is special.
I’ve never thought that playing instruments in a band with 4 dumb kids I barely knew before this could be the highlight of my year, but these few months have been the happiest I’ve ever been so far, and it could only go up.
Ah yes. A straight man being sentimental. People call that zesty, but I call that chalant and fun.
We’re planning a busking trip to a foreign place together, and I’ve never had this many items on my bucket list checked off for the first time in my life.
Start a Band. Be with a group of amazing people. Accomplished.
Get a girlfriend. oops.
Just Say Yes to Your Dreams, and say No to everything else.
I’m not the best at anything, but at least I’m willing to try for once, and that was all I needed.
Call us dumb. We’re young, wild and free.
